President Tinubu’s Vision for Women’s Economic Empowerment: The Crucial Role of State and Local Governments – Dr. Titilope Gbadamosi

At the HACEY Parallel Event during the CSW68 in New York, Dr. Titilope Gbadamosi, Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives (Monitoring and Delivery), emphasized the indispensable role of state and local governments* in driving *women’s economic empowerment (WEE). Speaking on the panel themed “Policy, Partnerships, and Practice: Advancing Women’s Economic Rights Through Inclusive Policy and Development Frameworks,” she stressed that while the Federal Government provides policies and national frameworks, implementation must be localized to ensure real impact. She highlighted that financial inclusion and support for women entrepreneurs must extend beyond urban centers, reaching grassroots communities where economic disparities are most pronounced.

Dr. Gbadamosi reaffirmed *President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to women’s economic empowerment* through initiatives such as the Presidential Conditional Grant Scheme (PCGS), the Bank of Industry’s women-led SME support, and the expansion of the National Microfinance Bank’s credit schemes. She advocated for a multi-stakeholder approach, urging state and local governments to align their strategies with federal policies while actively engaging private sector players like Wema Bank and Eden Venture Group to provide tailored financial solutions for women. Other esteemed panelists included the Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Digital Economy; the First Lady of Kwara State; Senator Ireti Kingibe (representing the FCT); and development partners, all of whom echoed the need for collaboration, innovation, and sustainable financing models to accelerate women’s access to economic opportunities in Nigeria.
