Nigeria’s Creative Future Takes Center Stage

In a landmark decision, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the Creative Leap Acceleration Programme (CLAP), a transformative national initiative aimed at positioning Nigeria as a global leader in the creative economy. Spearheaded by the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy (FMACTCE) under the leadership of Minister Hannatu Musa Musawa, CLAP is set to revolutionize the creative and tourism sectors by providing structured training, mentorship, and funding to help creatives scale their careers.

Empowering Creatives for Global Impact

CLAP is designed to empower Nigerian creatives with the skills, resources, and opportunities needed to thrive in the global creative landscape. The programme offers:

  • Structured Training: Equipping participants with industry-relevant skills across various creative disciplines.
  • Mentorship: Connecting creatives with seasoned professionals for guidance and support.
  • Funding Opportunities: Providing financial resources to scale creative ventures.
  • Global Market Access: Facilitating exposure to international markets and audiences.

By fostering a robust ecosystem for innovation and creativity, CLAP aims to create 2 million jobs and drive a $100 billion economy by 2030.

Building Infrastructure for the Creative Industry

To support the growth of the creative sector, CLAP plans to establish 600 creative hubs nationwide. These hubs will serve as centers for training, collaboration, and production, providing state-of-the-art facilities and resources for creatives. The initiative also includes the development of legal frameworks, funding mechanisms, and digital infrastructure to ensure sustainability and efficiency.

Monitoring and Evaluation: Ensuring Impactful Delivery

As the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiatives (Monitoring and Delivery), our role is to ensure that CLAP’s implementation aligns with its objectives. We will monitor key performance indicators, including:

  • Job Creation: Tracking the number of jobs generated through the programme.
  • Economic Contribution: Assessing the programme’s impact on the national GDP.
  • Skill Development: Evaluating the effectiveness of training and mentorship components.
  • Global Reach: Measuring the extent of international market penetration by Nigerian creatives.

Our commitment is to provide transparent and data-driven insights into CLAP’s progress, ensuring that the programme delivers tangible benefits to Nigerian youths and the broader economy.

A New Era for Nigeria’s Creative Economy

CLAP represents a significant investment in Nigeria’s creative potential, aligning with the nation’s broader goals of economic diversification and youth empowerment. By nurturing talent and fostering innovation, the programme aims to position Nigeria as a powerhouse in the global creative industry.
