In line with national efforts to expand access to technical and vocational education, CoopEdu, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education through the IDEAS-TVET Project, has introduced a 6-Month Free Bricklaying & Concreting Training Programme in Ibadan. The programme is sponsored by the World Bank.
This initiative is designed to equip young Nigerians with practical construction skills aligned with industry standards, while supporting the broader objective of strengthening Nigeria’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) ecosystem.
Programme Overview
The Bricklaying & Concreting Training Programme provides structured, hands-on instruction in:
- Practical bricklaying techniques
- Concreting methods and industry best practices
- Site-based technical training
- Safety standards and construction fundamentals
The programme combines classroom instruction with supervised on-site practical experience to ensure participants acquire market-ready competencies.
Location and Duration
- Location: Ibadan, Oyo State
- Duration: Six (6) months
- Training Start Date: January 12, 2026
Selected participants benefit from a monthly stipend, supporting consistent participation throughout the training period.
Expanding Access to Skills and Economic Opportunity
The programme forms part of broader efforts to enhance youth employability by focusing on demand-driven skills. Construction and infrastructure development remain key growth sectors in Nigeria’s economy, and structured training in bricklaying and concreting creates pathways for:
- Employment in construction firms
- Self-employment and small business creation
- Participation in community infrastructure projects
- Further specialization within the building trades
By lowering financial barriers through free tuition and stipends, the initiative improves access for young people who may otherwise be excluded from formal vocational training.
Strengthening the TVET Ecosystem
Through the IDEAS-TVET framework, this programme reinforces national reforms aimed at modernizing vocational education, improving quality standards, and promoting industry relevance. Collaboration between training providers, government institutions, and development partners ensures alignment with national workforce priorities.
